How to extract text from an image
Image to Text uses OCR processing to recognize text contained in an uploaded image. Select your image, choose the document language and output format, then run the extraction.
Choose the image containing the text you want to extract.
Choose the language that best matches the text in the image.
Select Plain Text for editable text or PDF for PDF output.
Run OCR, review the result when available, and download the generated file.
What is OCR?
OCR, or optical character recognition, analyzes an image and attempts to identify readable characters and words. It can help turn text contained in scans, screenshots, photographs, and other images into text that can be copied or saved.
Why does language selection matter?
Selecting the language gives the OCR process information about the characters and words it should expect. This tool provides English, Spanish, French, German, Simplified Chinese, Japanese, Italian, Portuguese, and Russian options.
Plain Text vs PDF output
Plain Text (.txt)
Choose TXT when you primarily need extracted text that can be opened in a text editor, copied, searched, or reused in another document.
PDF (.pdf)
Choose PDF when you want the OCR workflow to return its result as a PDF file instead of a plain-text download.
Tips for better OCR results
- • Use a clear image where the text is large enough to read.
- • Avoid excessive blur, glare, shadows, or strong perspective distortion.
- • Select the language that matches the document whenever possible.
- • Review names, numbers, punctuation, and other important details after extraction.
- • OCR accuracy can vary with fonts, layout, image quality, and source material.
